  1. Project Title
  2. The working title as it will be published on the CaptionKit website. Limited to 64 characters. You can modifiy this at any time, and re-publish if necessary.

Please choose something descriptive and meaningful, as this text will be visible in the public captioned media list. We also add this text to the meta-description tag in any transcript or project detail pages.

  3. Audio / video file name
  4. This button will open a 'Browse' box, to allow you to load an audio or video file. Please ensure (obviously !) that you have the correct programs installed to play your video, for example Real Player cannot play Quicktime content ;-)

CaptionKit currently supports all media available to Quicktime, Windows Media Player or Real Player. It will automatically load the correct player for your media file.

  5. Project Description
  6. Space for an extended description of the project. Accepts much more text than is available for the project title.

This text will also be available in any transcripts, and on other pages showing project details. It may also be indexed by search engines as they visit the site, and can be an important key to having your video content fully indexed.

  7. New Project
  8. Click this button to start your first and subsequent projects.

If you have unsaved changes, you will be offered the chance to save them before starting a new project. This will clear all current captions, title and descriptions, and you will need to choose a new media file to caption.

  9. Save Project
  10. This button saves all your changes to disk. If you try to close the window with unsaved changes, you will be offered the chance to save them before closing CaptionKit.

You will need to have the Internet Explorer option 'Userdata' available to save captions on your computer. Most people do not need to change this option (it's set by default). Open the help file for information about this. You can just publish them directly to the website, if you prefer).

  11. Load Projects
  12. Loads a list of all saved projects from disk.

Clicking on the 'Load' button shows all the projects you have created, with their creation date and title. Clicking 'Load' for any project will load the captions, description and original media file into CaptionKit, and start it playing.

You can delete individual projects from here, and will be asked to confirm the delete before the project is removed. This action is final and cannot be undone !

  13. Load Published
  14. When you have published subtitles to CaptionKit, they will appear in the list on the website. You can also load your captions from the website, for further editing.

This button contacts the website and requests a list of published presentations. You will need to be online to use this option. Otherwise, it works just as the 'Load Projects' button.

You may be asked to enter your user name and password. Please enter the user name and password you received in the registration email we sent you.

  15. Import subtitles
  16. This function is experimental and may be removed without notice. It has not been fully tested.

MicroDVD and SubRipper are two tools you can use to extract subtitles directly from caption-enabled DVD video.

CaptionKit can import these subtitles into our native format, and publish them to all formats supported by CaptionKit, including transcripts. This solution is offered without warranty, for people wishing to use Media Player with DivX to view DVD.

You can read more about this process here.
