Policy Evaluation

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 will evaluate this policy's compact policy whenever it is used with a cookie. The actions IE will take depend on what privacy level the user has selected in their browser (Low, Medium, Medium High, or High; the default is Medium.

In addition, IE will examine whether the cookie's policy is considered satisfactory or unsatisfactory, whether the cookie is a session cookie or a persistent cookie, and whether the cookie is used in a first-party or third-party context.

No information is retained for public users visiting the website, other than anonymous hit counting to determine popularity of some items on the site. Users purchasing CaptionKit accounts are may be required provide contact information to allow effective operation of their accounts. You can adjust your user preferences on the site to provide anonymous captioning. However, to comply with international copyright laws, it is necessary for us to retain contact information in the event of a dispute of ownership of the captioned material and its relationship to the source material. This will allow us to contact you to tell you the material was removed from the caption store in the event of any dispute, and to protect you from some liabilites which may potentially arise if you have captioned material in error to which you do not own the copyright.

In the creation of commercial CaptioKit accounts, it is of benefit to you to customise the details of your business. This allows linkage of the content to default areas of your website, display of selected information in captioned presentations, and targeting of search engine requests to your content. All elements of your business information (profile) are optional apart from a contact email address, which we require to notify you in the event of any difficulties with your account.

The following explanation is provided for why this data is collected:

Public site users do not have any personally identifiable information recorded about their visit other than an anonymous access count when you access certain presentations. For the creation of CaptionKit accounts, we need to collect certain information to identify you as a unique site account holder. Financial information to make payment for accounts is not taken or held by us, as we use PayPal as a secure payment provider. Your privacy in this regard is therefore governed by the PayPal privacy policy.
