CaptionKit ® is one of the most cost-effective video subtitle and indexing solutions available. We offer 2 membership rates which cover the software and initial caption storage :

• Individual      £7.50  [ €16      $15 ]


• Commercial  £25.00 [ €50.00  $50 ]

Price & feature comparison with other providers

One route you can take is to set up with captioning software and dedicated hardware. Typical costs for this are between $1000-$1300 plus hardware. In addition you will need to have trained staff to use a stenography keyboard.

Or, you can have somebody do it for you. Typically, rates from commercial captioning providers are between $5 and $13 for each minute of video. Additional charges of $150 over and above this for initial setup, are common. You will also be requested to provide a transcript before work starts !

Compare this with the cost of CaptionKit, which enables you to do the captioning yourself : we offer all the features of major web captioning providers, without the overheads, for between $15 and $50.

You will receive the latest version of the software and an initial storage allocation for publishing your captions.

Commercial accounts also have many more features you can use. Of course for commercial purposes you will also receive priority in support requests and software updates.

The CaptionKit website offers free access to people wanting to view your captioned presentations. This enables you to gain an audience for your media presentations.

Individual Membership

This is suitable for any person or organisation wishing to host captions on an ad-hoc basis with limited numbers of hits.

There are no current limits on bandwidth use. In any case the delivery of text captions is not anticipated to be bandwidth-intensive.

We may introduce a bandwidth cap in the unlikely event that service activity exceeds 10MB per month. This would require you to upgrade your service level.

The pricing of this service includes the captioning software, scheduled software updates and admin interface, and up to 100k of caption storage. Please contact us if you feel you would exceed these limits, because we aim to provide a flexible solution.

Commercial Membership

Commercial captioning attracts a higher rate because we set aside a greater amount of storage for your content. The initial storage limit will be 250k [Storage upgrades].

Please contact us if you feel you would be likely to exceed these limits, because we aim to provide a flexible solution. In addition, you will be entitled to priority upgrades (with email notification of new features to assist you in producing content).

Extra features of commercial accounts are significant, and include :

• A monitoring and stats control panel, relating to views of your content.
• Search engine friendly listings of your content which are linked back to your website. This will improve your overall ranking in search engines because they will be able to index your captioned video presentations


• The ability to offer password protected, restricted access to your content.
• Text transcripts, and shortly WAP (mobile phone, text only) website availability to your customers for important presentations.

Storage upgrades

Additional publishing storage is available for £15.00 [ €32.00 , $30 ] per 200k and can be purchased in blocks. 100k would be around 100 minutes of fast paced dialogue at 240 words per minute !

Occasionally you may exceed your storage limit without realising it. On exceeding the storage limit you will receive an email explaining current pricing and be invited to upgrade your account.

Further uploads will be stored securely but not be available for publishing until your account is upgraded.

If your account is not upgraded and you do not delete content to meet your storage limit within 14 days, excess content will be deleted (in reverse order of addition) until your storage limit is reached.

This is a last resort, and you will receive a further email informing you of this 48 hours before content is deleted.

We don't *want* to delete your content, but we have to meet our hosting limits too, and this would be detrimental to the rest of the community members :-)
